SEMINAR – Thursday, March 21, 2013
On March 21, the Paris office held a Seminar on Diversity in the workplace, focusing on legal obligations that are applying and best practices and lessons learned in France, the UK, US and Germany.
Proskauer partners Béatrice Pola (France), Betsy Plevan (US) and Daniel Ornstein (UK) and associate Karin Dulac (France) with “best friends” Dr. Thomas Winzer from Gleiss Lutz (Germany) introduced the legal and jurisprudential framework for diversity policies in their respective countries, including general prohibition of discrimination, legislative measures both at the domestic and European levels to promote diversity and case law guidance relating to establishing the absence of workplace discrimination.
The second part of the seminar has been introduced by Mina Gerowin, member of the Board of Exor, the Fiat holding company, who shared her experience on gender equality at the board and how she handled with the glass ceiling all along her career. Then the lawyers identified the best practices in their country to prevent discrimination and to promote diversity, including best practices in term of origin/ethnicity, gender equality, sexual orientation, age, union activity and disability.
